Comic Book Nostalgia Days

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

When I was a kid, there was nothing I loved more than when my Dad took me to the newsstand in search of the latest comics.  For the dollar that was in my pocket, I could walk out of there with four brand new installments of my favorite characters’ exploits. Yes, I remember well, and with a tear in my eye, when comics were a quarter.  Now a single issue will cost what I could have used to by twelve comic books when I was that snot-nosed kid at the newsstand.

To commemorate those nostalgic days of yesteryear, Armoury Games is offering up a special deal.  From Wednesday, Nov. 25th, through Wednesday, Dec. 2nd, all back issues – those are the books in the long, white boxes – are only a quarter each. That’s right, regardless of the printed cover price, each back issue is only one quarter each!

And just to see if you are paying attention, if you mention that you read about this sale on the website, you will be able to earn stamps on your Smithy’s Swag Card for your comic purchase – sale items are not normally counted for determining stamps earned.

The quarter per issue sale price applies to back issues only, not including comics on the comic display wall or comics being held in personal pull files. Sale items not eligible to earn Smithy’s Swag Stamps except as mentioned above.

Welcome to our latest episode: “Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig” or “There and Back Again, a Vendor’s Tale”

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Here I am, making a long overdue post about current events at Armoury Games.  Point of fact. . . I have been trying to update the website for about a week now, but a corrupt plug in kept me from being able access the admin panel.  I have skirted the issue temporarliy, though, and here I am.

The Ohio renaissance Festival was very good to us.  Not only was it a good time, but it helped us through our normal slow period here at the store.  We had such a good time we will be returning next year, so everyone should set aside a day to attend, there really is a lot to see and do.

Now having said that, I feel I must mention that it was a LOT of work.  Trying to keep the store going, my booth at the fair and helping my wife with her shop at the fair as well as looking after the kids was exhausting.  I couldn’t have done it without the help of the great group of staff and freinds that really stepped up to keep this ship afloat.  A special thanks to a certain someone for the hundreds of biscuits donated to the cause and my good friend with a box truck - he took the day off from his new business to help us get all of our junk home from the fair when our pre-arranged delivery system fell apart.  There are so many others to thank as well, but I hear the band cueing me get on with it.

A lot of new and interesting things came in during the time I was absent here – Primal Power for D&D, the Pathfinder Bestiary, the Rogue Trader 40k RPG, Space Wolves, Retribution for WarMachine, and Blood Bag Energy Drinks just to name a few.  And we’ve seen a good bit of activity here at the store as well, including Pathfinder Society RPG (every other Tuesday and open to everyone), a Warmachine/Hordes tournament, Warhammer 40k and Fantasy play and every Thursday there is a great crew playing the Legends of the Five Rings ccg.

we have a greatly expanded selection of board games currently and a BRAND NEW product – latex/foam replica weaponry suitable for sparring.  Come in and see it for yourself!  The staff has been testing these out for weeks now, and I can tell you, they are a lot of fun.

So, to finish up, I have to say I am happy to be back, but I am also looking forward to Saturday - my first day off since late July.

Bruce (tired but not defeated)
