Taking a dive into t-shirt design

March 6th, 2011

In addition to the Arrmoury Games Cafe Press store (which can be reached by the link in the sidebar to the right), I have begun work on several designs that will be submitted to the good folks over at Threadless.com. You can go and score my design: “Burnishing Barmaid,” to help it get printed on Threadless! Show your support and give this design high marks! Don’t forget to check the box that says “I would buy this as a tee”. You aren’t, of course, under any obligation to actually buy it if it does get printed (although I certainly wouldn’t object). Thanks!

Sales and Events update

February 16th, 2011

In keeping with our previous announcement, we have a number of product lines that have gone on sale, including Flames of War, Confrontation and AT-43 with more to come. And our boardgame library is priced to move. Many of these games have been played only a handful of times and some have not been played at all, and you can get them for 50% off regular retail price. We also have terrain boards and indivdual terrain pieces for sale.

It’s worth noting as well that the L5R League has been cancelled. Other events listed on the calendar are at this time still scheduled to take place.

Welcome to our next installment entitled; “A Farewell to Arms” or “So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish”

February 14th, 2011

It is with mixed emotions that I make the following announcement, but after a lot of consideration I have decided to close Armoury Games. I could cite any of a great number of reasons for this decision, such as; wanting more quality time to spend with my family (I haven’t had a vacation in over 10 years), lost sales to online discounters, the crappiest economy since the depression, and the government making it nearly impossible to operate a legitimate business just to name a few, but it’s all pretty much moot at this point.

There are many things that I will miss about the store – the community, friends that I have made that I get to see on a regular basis – and many things that I will not miss – having little to no free time, organizing the calendar of events with the organizers (it’s like herding cats sometimes) and, believe it or not, having no time to play games. I know there is so much more I can say, but I’m not going to at this time. Perhaps I will ruminate more in a future post.

In the meantime, I will be selling off the store’s entire existing stock, including store terrain and fixtures. Everything will have to go. We will no longer be issuing stamps on Smithy’s Swag Card, but will still honor the discount for a full card (on game stock only, not to include terrain or fixtures). If you have a card that is not completely full, you may use it for a 1% per stamp discount (discount not to exceed $30). I do not have a fixed date yet that will be our last day in operation, but it will not be long off, probably 30 days or less. After our final orders that have already been placed arrive, we will not be ordering any new stock, including special orders, so it’s pretty much what you see is what you get.

So, to all of you who have loyally supported Armoury Games over the years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To those that buy from online discounters or illegally download print products, I have a considerably less generous opinion. Just remember, if you play at your local games store, support it by making your purchases there, and, more importantly, by behaving well, being friendly, and helping to invite new members into their community. In this way you can help to keep the endangered species of the friendly local game store alive for a little while longer.

Armoury Games Shogunate “Battle for the Sword”- A Legend of the Five Rings League

February 4th, 2011

Come join us for the Armoury Games Shogunate L5R League. The league kicks off on Sunday, February 20th and runs for ten full weeks with at least six scheduled event days (see our Events Calendar).

It’s easy to get started;

  • Bring a Celestial legal constructed deck to enter. This deck will remain at the store for the duration of the league and you will be given opportunities along the way to add to or change your deck.
  • This is a point based league, the more points you earn, the more rewards you get.
    • Points are earned as follows; 1 point for attending a scheduled event day, 1 point for each league legal game played, and 1 additional point for each win.
    • Prize rewards are awarded at 10 points, 20 points, and 30 points (prizes vary and include limited promo cards, deck backs, token cards, etc.).
    • Every 5 points earned awards the league member the opportunity to purchase up to two Celestial legal booster packs and use these to modify their league deck.
    • There is a grand prize for the league’s top point earner (see below).
  • League legal games can be played on days other than scheduled event days. The games must be played at Armoury Games and the results reported to the Armoury Games staff (please call ahead to ensure table space is available).
  • There is no limit to the number of games that a league member may play, except that no one may play any given league member more than once per week.

Did we mention above that there is a grand prize? Yes that’s right, the league’s top point earner will be awarded a very special grand prize; and if you haven’t figured it out by now from the title of this post, the grand prize is a SWORD!*

Entry is only $15 and covers all ten weeks and all scheduled event days.

For more information contact Eric at otakulrd86@yahoo.com

*If grand prize winner is under 18, the sword prize must be accepted by a parent or legal guardian.
